The School of Languages and Cultures in the Faculty of Arts is seeking toappoint a Level B or Level C Lecturer (equivalent to US assistant professoror associate professor) in Italian Studies from January 2009. Applicantsshould hold a PhD degree or equivalent and have native or near-nativecompetence in Italian and English. The preferred applicant will have astrong record of research, publication and teaching in aresearch-university context, and be willing to participate in advancedlanguage teaching. Applicants at Level C should have a record of successfulgrant applications and of Honours and Postgraduate supervision. Given theDepartment's current staffing profile, preference may be given to aspecialist in Italian Literature before 1700.

The appointee will be required to work independently and collaboratively incourse design, development and coordination; teach senior-level units inhis or her area of Italian Studies; contribute to cross-discipline units atundergraduate and postgraduate level; take an active role inadministration, including WebCT and teaching administration; and maintainan active research profile. He or she will also work to maintain closecontacts already established between the Department and the wider community.

Applicants are invited to indicate areas in addition to language teachingin which they are most equipped to contribute to the current and futureteaching of the Department.

The position is full-time and continuing (subject to the completion of asatisfactory probation period) and is available from 1 January 2009.Applicants should be available to commence teaching in Semester 1, 2009.Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition ofemployment for new appointees.

Remuneration package: $86,731 - $122,395 p.a. (which includes a base salaryLecturer Level B/C $73,289 - $103,519 p.a., leave loading and up to 17%employer's contribution to superannuation).
