It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Natalja YulievnaShvedova, who died on Friday 18 September, in Moscow, aged 92.

Natalja Yulievna (the youngest natural daughter of a well-known Russianliterary critic Yulij Isaevich Aikhenvald) was a true matriarch of thegrammar of Russian, and the author of the 'Academic grammar of Russian', inaddition to many other books. She will be missed by students, colleagues,and relatives.
