    **************** Announcing *FLING* ********************

A new list for Feminists in LINGuistics

FLING is a woman-centered list for women in linguistics and related fields, such as anthropology, artificial intelligence, communications, foreign language pedagogy, philosophy, sociology, psychology, and women's studies. The list has been created to provide women with a forum in which to discuss professionally relevant issues, broadly construed, and in which the terms of discussion are to be established and maintained by women.

FLING is intended to embrace discussion on all themes that touch the professional lives of the women on the list, including relevant personal issues. FLING subscribers are invited to discuss issues in the field of language and gender, language and sexuality, and other research areas of particular relevance to women, as well as voice professional concerns regarding mentoring and networking, academic hirings and tenure decisions, grants and financial aid, teaching strategies, and women's experiences in the field. Subscribers are also encouraged to post announcements about forthcoming conferences or publications on issues of special relevance to women.

FLING is woman-oriented, but not separatist. All listmembers are asked to respect the list's primary guideline that discussion on the list be woman-oriented, defined, and directed. Please direct any questions or concerns about the list to the list managers, Megan Crowhurst (mjcrowhugibbs.oit.unc.edu) and Kira Hall (kira.hallyale.edu).
